TUESDAY @ KRAV MAGA EDINBURGH

Tonight after a kettlebell and body weight warm up we started working on our core combatives. We started with jab, cross and then worked into elbow strikes, knees, head butts and front kicks. We then looked at how Krav Maga deals with headbutt attacks. We looked at when the attacker grabs us and attempts to strike us with their head. Generally, we would blade off and bring our horizontal elbow in line with our face which would either destroy the attackers face or have them flinch away. The elbow position allows us to return a horizontal elbow strike if they have flinched away. We then looked at preventing a headbutt by placing our arm diagonally on the opponents shoulder. If we lift our forearm we can raise the opponents jaw line which makes our head butt strike all the more effective.

We then looked at how Krav Maga deals with close range hooking punches. These normally occur in a clinch position and require a modified 360 defence normally minus the simultaneous counter strike. We quickly looked at dealing with countering a rugby tackle style attack. We worked this from close range where we imagined we were in a clinch and the high line was frustrated so the attacker naturally goes to the next available line. We looked at various ways of countering this. A great class with and excellent effort put in by everyone who attended. You worked through all the material in a logical fashion and I hope you can take the tools and principles away and adapt them to any situation.
