TONIGHT @ KRAV MAGA EDINBURGH

We started off the class with a quick warm up into the 300 drill. Next week I will stipulate that while one person completes the exercise the partner is doing star jumps. As soon as you are finished it is straight into burpees. The beginners class covered the striking from the level one syllabus then looked at dealing with a static choke from behind. We looked at the methodology behind the escape and also the tactics for escape. I also commented on how after we have struck the groin and we throw one arm away we still have control of the other arm. If we think about cross training then we can easily get ourselves into a standing arm bar position. This again may suit somone whose roll is that of restraint. Again, we have to condsider that you may not be able to run away, you may be injured, may be overweight or may have somone with you who can't move quickly. So if we take the principle of the straight arm bar and I am not thinking restraint then I am thinking of a bone break. So this is the restraint but done with power as opposed to pressure. I'm not looking for the guy to tap out. We then looked at the choke from the side in a lying position. We looked specifically at the making sure we plucked at the wrist and sought the suprasternal notch to enable the head to lift up so we can get that leg in as a barrier. Remember that we have struck suprasternal notch which will cause a gag reflex at best at that angle. It wont do much to deter an attacker so we need to get the feet in striking quickly and get to our feet fast. If we attack the notch from a standing position we can get better results so keep this in mind in terms of the educational block or when dealing with close quarter combat. Sometimes when drilling the side choke on the ground work in small groups and imagine that you can't wuickly get to your feet. If we imagine that we have fallen or been smashed into the ground then we could be injured or perhaps the wind has been knocked from us so we might not be leaping up. In the drill as soon as you are going through the escape have some other attackers close in with either kick shields for you to strike or have them kicking you so you have to defend then attack. Just play about with it and always put yourself at a disavantage, that you hopefully won't be surprised. Plus it's great to be out your comfort zone a little in a training session.

In the intermediate class we revisted the stick attack curriculum and also some multiple opponent drills.
