Ladies Class
Last night we threw some in some new drills and they were met with mixed reviews! In order to advance in our training we need to shock the system ladies. I will be adding more and more each week so that we are continually adding more and more to our repertoire.
Last night we worked the kettlebells with the swing, snatch and squats. Good solid workout had by all hopefully! We then switched over to the pads and worked on our combative strikes. The combinations are now beginning to flow very well so you should all be very pleased with yourselves.
We then explored knife defence working through how we would deal with this sort of attack. We used both Krav Maga and Tactical Edge techniques and I will leave it up to you to decide which is the most practical to use for you guys.
Tactical Edge
After a brief warm up to gets the heart pumping we drilled the pads with our combative strikes from all angles. Then we moved over to our long range to the snap kick. This is a really good tool to use for when we want to move in and finish the job off. We also worked pre-emptive striking and had our partners let us know if they could see us loading up. Obviously we don't want an attacker to see us get ready to strike.
Tonight was all about getting the basics right so we went into our straight blast limb destruct ions. From here we added multiple strikes ranging from elbows to knees and then looked at how it didn't matter what was in the attackers hand we dealt with it the same way.
Krav Maga
The class kicked off with some striking of the pads using palm heel strikes. This flowed nicely into marking the target to ensure we are hitting the important parts. Too often you see people punching the shoulder thinking this is going to inflict a "knock out”. It's not! Also, once we strike an opponent their hands cover this area so we have to strike other parts. Sound simple? Watch you tube and it's full of KM guys doing 4 knees to the groin, 10 elbows to the head. Train sloppy and pay the price.
We then worked chokes from all angles front, side and back. good effort guys, remember to keep practicing at home. You don’t need a training partner for this. It’s all about getting the movement right and the hand speed up!
During the course of the evening Iain Neil a Judo coach from Ireland popped in. He's across training here and I'm never one to miss an opportunity so I had Iain on the mat going over some takedowns with the guys. The type of take downs that so many of the MMA guys are trying to get their hands on from the Judo players. I videod one of these so I hope to get it on the blog soon.
