Thursday at Krav Maga Edinburgh

The women's class kicked off with a light warm up and then we moved onto a fierce Kettlebell workout. We focused on the swing with a whole host of other movements added to try and work all muscle groups. Fantastic effort by all! You can really see the difference now in the form and level of fitness that is on display.

The group then moved onto the pads and we worked on some combinations. Starting with jab cross, we then took this further by adding other strikes on top of that. For the self defence part we explored wrist grabs and the different ways we can get free.Passively or aggressively.

Tactical Edge

We warmed up and worked the pads a little with our jab and hammer fists. We then got into groups of 3 and 2 of the group became attackers. The defender had to move around tactically and then pre-emptively strike the 2 of them and then get away (avoiding going between the 2). No hostages were taken on this drill as it was all about getting away. We further worked this against the wall and with"verbal" which adds a whole new dimension to this drill. To finish the class off we worked on our elbow shields to block the straight attack. Once we got the hang of this we then went into finishing mode.

Krav Maga

Class started with some pad drills working on a few combinations. Speed was of the essence here! We then started to try at the end of our combinations to acquire a foot pin.
It wouldn't be KM if we didn't go over and drill the 360 so that's what we did. The speed at which the class was reacting was great. Hand speeds are increasing and that simultaneous strike is definitely reaching its intended target. This then progressed into finishing mode. We played a little game of eyes closed and the attacker would tap a part of the body he was intending to attack so the defender had a clue of where it was coming. Dominik thought it was a good idea to then attack a different part. Big mistake as we threw him into the ring of death. Great class guys!

Thanks to everyone who has supported the club by buying a hoodie. Sales have gone great and we have pretty much soled out! So if you want one you better get it next week as they will most definitely be SOLD OUT!

  1. Yeah, the class was well worth it. In the end, even the ring of death wasn't a bad thing ;) (although I can still kind of feel it)
One thing I've noticed on my own example is that, with good basics, fighting against multiple oponents, as we did on Thursday, take this training to an entirely new level, mainly by shaping our resistance to stress and thus increasing your level of confidence, imho being a single most significant factor that comes into play when it comes to a real fight. Again, it is all in your head.
Adding up to this by deploying the skills we have gained is a really good sample of what a real fight is like, when adrenaline cuts in!

  2. Thanks for the feedback Dominik. It would be good if some of the other guys left comments on how they either find the classes or if they want anything added onto the blog.

  3. I reckon one of the attackers should put boxing gloves on and try to get a good shot in the defenders stomach to properly wind him/her. This would be a good analog for a real fight and may mean you get winded, but then you would know what it is really like to be incapacitated for a time. Obviously if the defender is winded and drops then the scenario is paused until they recover.

  4. multiple attacks are a excellent training boost in any system but i think gettin us all fully adrenalized would really push training, the situations we where put in are great for finding right tools to right targets but it would be intersting to see how people cope when there out of breath and shaking.
