CLASSES @ KRAV MAGA EDINBURGH

Tonight in Tactical Edge we started with our combatives and moved into the limb destruction matrix. From there we added in the pass over and looked to achieve a chest to back position. Rather than using our typical takedowns we chose to strike and disengage. We then looked at our standard response against a front knife threat. I keep explaining to the guys that when you do this you need to fire that low line kick in quickly. If you watch Mark Davies demonstrate this defence on the TE DVD that covers the Edged Weapons seminar you see the speed with which he throws the kick once he has clasped the attackers hands. The kick is normally enough to fell an attacker however, you have the option of the returning blade if either you miss or your kick is ineffective. Again, listen on the DVD to Mark's explanation of the OODA loop. Consider that when you decide to take action and you clasp the hands and kick you will be already returning the blade as he falls. People seem to forget the response you get from striking someone and how the body typically moves in a SD situation. People dont wear high gear or reman suits. Remember this isn't sparring where we have the same moves and are slugging it out. There was a great example of this in class tonight when Dimitri kicked his brother in the groin during training and he fell to the floor and there was no chance of returning the blade. Dimitri however, still hand two hands controlling the attackers one hand. Dimitri's brother is new to training and wasn't wearing groin protection. Great to have new guys along who act natural for those first few weeks before they become like Jason Bourne. Remember outside of training people don't know what you are going to do. In class we all know what's going to happen. Great effort by the class.

Tonight saw the first women-only kickboxing class. Well attended and fun had by all. We started off working the kettlebells and then into some combinations on the pads. We will work on lots more over the coming weeks. Hope to see you all again next week.

Marcus
