KARAMBIT SEMINAR REVIEW

Yesterday was up to Tactical Edge HQ for Mark Davies’s karambit seminar. Mark kicked off explaining the uniqueness of the karambit and the various grips you could apply. The karambit is a tool for engaging at extreme close quarters. In Tactical Edge the motions are all mirrored in empty hand by the use of the elbows. We began working on defending common angles and then adding in a counter attack. This then fed nicely into banda banda and then we were encouraged to simply flow for a while using those common angles. Later on we revisited each of the common angles we had previously worked on and Mark provided us with a little matrix including disarms and our low line traps and levers. The day focused on edged weapon versus edged weapon however, the empty hand application stares you in the face. Then Mark introduced the impact karambit and various combat sets. A great days training and plenty of tools to go away with back to your respective clubs and further develop on your own. The next seminar at TE HQ will be the Asian Blade Combatives, then the people’s favourite – THE BOWIE!
