Women’s Combat Ready and conditioning class kicked off with the dreaded circuit training. I introduced a few new Kettlebell work outs along with the now mandatory bodyweight drills.
We focused on getting our striking up to scratch and ensuring we are fast and pre-emptive rather than trying to throw lots of power into it. Good effort guys and you can really see the difference in everyone’s striking. Practice makes perfect and nothing is stopping you trying this one at home.
For the intermediate class we quickly went over what we did in Tuesday’s class along with some pad drills. We know we can hit a pad but now it’s all about having it flowing from one strike to another. Starting with palm heel strikes and then moving into a hammer then elbows.
From here the class progressed into the vertical head twist, we added this into our defence ensuring that we were creative and tried where possible to use a different response for each attack. That was close range, so we jumped to long range and introduced the front snap kick along with the turning kick. Remember it’s not a round kick it’s a snap. So fast out fast back!
For the Levels 0-3 we started the class with a light game of touch the head or knee. This is a great game as it allows us to work on our blocking, foot work and attacking game. We then went into 360 defence with simultaneous attack. Once we drilled that we then went into a takedown. This is where we are ahead of the game versus other clubs. We pride ourselves on the fact that we like to get up close and personal. We are able to adapt and finish the attack off at close range without risking injury. 360 cover outside attacks so a natural progression was to move into straight punches. So that’s what we did. Here, it’s important to remember that you need to move the head and feet in case you miss that pass with the hands. We worked on the inside and outside. Good effort here guys as this one was a new one for most of you!
Front chokes kicked off with a quick game of Zombie. We quickly spoke about how and why you have allowed someone to choke you. From here we covered defence against front choke and then finishing mode. Utilising your foot pins and sectors along with a takedown of your choice.
A lot covered in all 3 classes. If you missed class this week we will kick off next weeks with a short revision of this week. Make sure you get along though!
